Dr. César Ballester is an independent film scholar with a particular interest in classical film theory and Central and East European cinema. Former academic (he taught at UCL, London; FAMU, Prague; and at the Arts University Bournemouth’s Film School), he is a critic, speaker and panelist at various film festivals, retrospectives and other events across Europe. He was also curator at the International Cinema Week of Madrid (formerly Experimental Cinema Week of Madrid) (1996 – 2013). Author of two monographs (Miloš Forman; Andrzej Munk), book chapters and several articles published in peer reviewed academic journals, he is currently finishing a major monograph on Krzysztof Kieślowski, to be published by Reaktion Books, London.

Dr. César Ballester was educated at King’s College London, Charles University Prague, University College London, and, in practical film-making at Central Saint Martins London and Arts University Bournemouth.
