The Patronage is, above all, a testament to Kieślowski’s enduring place in the canon of European cinema. It is also an expression of recognition for the legacy of one of the most outstanding auteurs of world cinema, whose body of work remains to this day one of the foundations of European film identity.

The European Film Academy, bringing together leading filmmakers and industry professionals across the continent, grants its patronage to events that align with its mission of promoting artistic values, reflection, and intercultural dialogue. In this context, the Hommage à Kieślowski festival emerges as a space for a living encounter with the director’s work, as well as a platform for reinterpreting his ideas in the contemporary world.

The relationship between Kieślowski and the EFA is both unique and historically grounded. As early as 1988, the director received the Academy’s first major award—then known as the “Felix”—for A Short Film About Killing. The nomination of Three Colours: Red (for Best European Film of the Year) further confirmed his lasting presence at the center of European cinematic reflection. Today’s patronage can therefore be seen as the closing of a symbolic circle—from honoring the filmmaker to honoring the festival that preserves and develops his legacy.
